Contact lenses are one of the greatest inventions for some people. They are also more comfortable then ever. Contacts are very safe to use as long as you follow the directions for usage and cleaning. Failure to do so can damage your eyes.
Follow these tips to ensure healthy eyes... -Only purchase contacts from a licensed vision care specialist. Contacts are considered medical devices. Purchasing contacts anywhere else does not guarantee the structure of the lens and you could potentially damage your vision. -Avoid depriving your eye of oxygen. Contacts sit directly on the cornea and only allow a some oxygen into your eye. Make sure you discard and replace your contacts as told by your doctor. Try to give your eyes a break once in awhile by using your glasses in the evenings. -Properly clean your contacts and the case they go in. Bacteria and other infection sources can grow on your lenses especially as the lenses get older. The Brien Holden Vision Institute has stated, eye infections occur only in about 4 of every 10,000 daily contact lens wearers (0.04 %) and 20 of every 10,000 people who wear extended wear contact lenses on an overnight basis (0.2%). However these infections can be very dangerous. Cleaning and disinfecting your lenses reduce the risks significantly. Rinse and air dry your contact case after use, and use new solution each time you take your contacts out. You wouldn't bathe in used bathe water don't make your contacts bathe in used solution! -Replace your contacts as instructed. Contacts have special coatings on them that protect your eye. When your doctor tells you to replace your contacts every 30 days that is because these coatings start to wear off after 30 days. Your eyes will be more prone to infection and oxygen deprivation. -Make sure you have your annual eye exams. Come in so we can make sure that your contacts are still a good fit for you and that your eyes are healthy! We have some of the most comfortable contact lenses on the market at our office.
