Are you caring for your contacts properly? Here are some good tips to go over to ensure healthy contact wearing habits.
  • Always wash your hands prior to handling your contacts.
  • Daily disposable contact lenses are designed to be worn once and then thrown away, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of cleaning or storing the lenses.
  • For soft contacts, find a  solution that conditions, cleans, removes protein, disinfects, rinses and stores soft contact lenses. We recommend Biotrue by Bausch + Lomb or Pure Moist by Alcon.
  • Never reuse solution.
  • Replace your lens case every month.
  • Never wear your contacts longer then your Dr. Prescribes. Lenses are designed for specific wearing times.Depending on what’s best for your eyes, your eye care professional may recommend a lens designed for daily replacement, a lens designed for two weeks of daily wear, or a lens designed for one month of daily wear.Regardless, it’s really important to follow the replacement schedule your eye doctor gave you – it tells you when you need new lenses. Following it will keep your eyes safe and comfortable – so make sure you stick to it.

Contact Lens Care

Whether you are a first time contact lens wearer or not, make sure you see your eye doctor once a year to ensure an accurate prescription.

Now that you have your lenses here is what the American Optometric Association recommends to do to take care of them...
  1. Always wash your hands before handling contact lenses.

  2. Carefully and regularly clean contact lenses, as directed by your optometrist. Rub the contact lenses with fingers and rinse thoroughly before soaking lenses overnight in sufficient multi-purpose solution to completely cover the lens.

  3. Store lenses in the proper lens storage case and replace the case at a minimum of every three months. Clean the case after each use, and keep it open and dry between cleanings.

  4. Use only products recommended by your optometrist to clean and disinfect your lenses. Saline solution and re-wetting drops are not designed to disinfect lenses.

  5. Only fresh solution should be used to clean and store contact lenses. Never re-use old solution. Contact lens solution must be changed according to the manufacturer's recommendations, even if the lenses are not used daily.

  6. Always follow the recommended contact lens replacement schedule prescribed by your optometrist.
